Is it really May out there?

Good morning!! :-)

So yet another week has passed (of cold and unpredictable weather), and I've realized that getting around to blogging on a daily basis is going to take a lot more work than just saying that I will, lol.  It's a lot harder to get into the habit of writing more frequently, but I am determined to get my act together and talk to you guys on a more frequent basis (being  a writer is just naturally difficult for me, I'm an engineer by day and live and breathe numbers and science!).

But on another note, this isn't to say that I haven't been busy this past week.  So many things have transpired that I need to fill you all in on!

First off Happy Belated Mother's Day to all of the mother's out there in cyberspace.  This was our weekend, and I hope you spent it with your family, enjoying the many reasons why you are the mother that you are.

Even though this is my third Mother's Day, it's still a shock that I am a mom!  It seemed like just yesterday I was graduating from high school (2002), and then graduating from college (2007).  Where did the time go?  When did I become such a grown up?! Aargh, time needs to slow down just a little bit. Please, pretty please??  I just don't want to turn around realize that it's year 2063 and I missed the last 50 years of my life!  And honestly, I think that's the case with everyone out there.  No one wants to fly through life and realize that in being so busy, they missed out on the little things that really mattered.  :-(

Ok, so enough of the sappy stuff, lol.  In other news, I have decided to start sending out weekly newsletters showing various sales, promotions, discounts, new items, etc., as it relates to Passionate Knitting.  These newsletters will be going out every Friday to those that decide to take part and sign up.  If you are interested, please feel free to use the sign up box to the right (in the white box that says "Subscribe to our mailing list").  These WILL NOT be spam, and will only come once a week.  And as a perk, only those that subscribe to this newsletter will get exclusive deals and coupon codes that will not be published any where else on Passionate Knitting's social media sites.  So, get to it!  Sign up!  Also, I would really appreciate it if you could comment and let me know what you would like to see in my weekly newsletter.  As always, I really would love to hear from you guys.

In addition to starting my newsletter, I have also expanded my advertising and am now being featured on www.everythingetsy.com, as a clickable advertiser.  This is huge news!  But to be honest, I'm a little fearful of this whole thing.  It means that I am moving along towards becoming a more productive and efficient small business, which therefore means more orders!  I mean, of course this is a great thing to have more orders, but it means that I will have to become more streamlined in my day to day activities and get moving on orders a lot quicker.  Do I need to start getting more people involved to help with tasks such as managing ads, customers, etc?  These are just things that I need to start thinking about, and quick too!!  Are there any small business owners out there that have dealt with this before?  What did you do when your business started to pick up?  Are there any other tips and tricks that you can fill me in on?!

Now I promised in my last blog post that I would start to share with you what I have been working on for my customers, and I have some things to share with you this week!  A few of my customers have ordered my "Chicago Cowl", which has a stitch pattern reminiscent of the John Hancock Center in Chicago.  Because it is spring, I've decided to switch up the yarn originally used, from a thick and chunky wool, to a light and airy acrylic.  This is the finished product:

So this cowl is not a complete infinity cowl, or scarf that will wrap around your neck more than once.  It is designed to be lightweight and just wrap loosely once and then button closed.  It's perfect for any spring occasion and this green color is really reminiscent of spring!  If you're interested in ordering one, please visit https://www.etsy.com/listing/118857233/chicago-style-cowl, where you can customize it with any color you desire.

Something else I have been working on are my owl keychains.  I've had a huge order for them in bulk and was pounding them out this weekend lol Here they are!

Once again, if you are interested in ordering these, please visit https://www.etsy.com/listing/128078489/hand-crocheted-owl-key-chain.  And if you would like them in bulk, just convo me on Etsy, and I will get you pricing information.

Ok guys, well that's all that I have for now, and I will be getting back with you guys in a few days!  Don't forget to sign up to receive our weekly newsletters as well as our blog updates, using the subscription links to the right.

New Month, New Week, New Day!

Hi guys :-)

We've started another month rather successfully at Passionate Knitting, and my hopes are that my business continues to grow!  However, I have been faced with some challenges these past few weeks, that prohibit my store's fans and customers from receiving updates, promotions, sales, etc.  So with this being said, I'm going to be upping my blogging to hopefully daily, if not every other day postings!  It's going to be tough ramping myself up to do this, but in the long run it's definitely going to pay off.

But the great thing about this, is that I'm going to be expanding to more than just knitting and crocheting.  If you didn't know Passionate Knitting is more than just a store on Etsy, it's a lifestyle of balancing family, a full time job, and my customers/fans.  So with that being said, this blog is going to cover it all!  From tips and tricks to balance daily life around the house, to getting through the day without feeling like a corpse by dinnertime, you're going to hopefully feel rejuvenated after reading each of my posts.  In addition to this, there will also be updates to my current projects that I am working on, as well as any sales/promotions that are taking place in the store.  I hope everyone looks forward to this new, REVAMPED blog for Passionate Knitting, because I'm more than excited to take on this challenge.

So, moving along to more fun stuff!  I want to share with you three tips that keep me going and motivated ....

With the increased amount of customers and sales that I have been seeing in my store (as mentioned above), it has really been a challenge to balance working full time, keeping up with orders on time, as well as taking care of an active 2 year old.  I find that by the time I get home from work, I'm dead to the world ... it takes all of me just to make something substantial for dinner, and get us into bed in one piece.  Ugh!  I so look forward to my Fridays, which are my days off where I can just have some me time.

So that's my tip #1 for today: Make sure that you take out time for yourself.  No matter how busy you are, make sure that you can at least do something for 30 minutes (or even 15), that calms and relaxes your nerves; where there aren't any stresses to completing a task, a to do list or anything along those lines.  Watch your favorite TV show, exercise, read, take a long shower ... just do whatever makes YOU feel good!  I know it sounds really crazy, and so simplistic to do, but trust me.  I didn't believe it until I started trying it.  It works wonders!

Ok, now tip #2: Have you ever felt like you're moving at such a fast and furious pace that by the time you are ready to go to bed, you can't fall asleep?  Isn't that the worst?! ugh!!! I literally am faced with this EVERY single night, LITERALLY.  And trust me, it makes for a really bad morning ... So what I have found is that drinking some warm tea really helps to soothe and relax me.  But ... the question now becomes, which tea should we drink?  There are so many to choose from!  To answer that question, I've came across a pin on Pinterest that is really working for me.  It tells you which teas are best for how you're feeling at the moment. Take a look:

You should try it tonight ;-)

Lastly, tip #3 deals with keeping your energy levels going throughout the day, so that you don't pass out from starvation, without even knowing you were hungry!  I've found that keeping small, high protein snacks with me throughout the day, really helps keep me moving despite not having time to sit down and eat a full meal (the typical working mom, huh?).  For me, bringing various nuts (I'm not a huge nut fan at all, so I really only stick to almonds), raisins, fruits and cheeses with me helps.  Try testing out what works for you, and trust me you'll start to feel better and get through your day more efficiently! You really don't want to be this guy, do you?! lol

So that's all the tips that I have for today! Hopefully you can implement them into your day and work towards becoming more productive.

Also, please make sure that you sign up to receive email notifications of new blog posts, using the sign up box to the right.  You don't want to miss out on new tips, tricks, sale and promotions that are going on.  Just remember that interaction on our FB page is going to be dwindling down as new FB rules and regulations are really limiting who is seeing Passionate Knitting's posts.

I love my customers too much, to not pass on something that could benefit you!

Please comment and let me know what you think about the new revamped blog.  And if you have any suggestions or advice, those are always welcome too!

Spring is finally here! (i think lol)

Hi everyone, I'm back! :-)

I know it's been a while since I last posted on my blog, but things have been pretty crazy here the past week/week and a half.  Between working my full time job (I'm an engineer for the Army), taking care of a VERY healthy and active 2 year old, and catching up on orders, I haven't had time to do pretty much anything outside of that! Blah right?! Ugh, I really think I should just quit my job and become a full time crafter and a stay at home mom ... but that's a whole other issue -_-

But on another note, I've been doing some serious thinking here .... I really need to figure out what it's going to take to get more fans attracted to my product and store.  What is it that will create brand loyalty and keep the sales increasing on a daily basis?  That's the roadblock that I've come to right now and I'm really unsure as to what it will take to get me over this hump.  I thought that I had it all figured out, when sales were increasing and the store was buzzing, but what happened?  Why did I fall into this rut?

I know I have great products, and I know that I do have a few loyal customers, but how do I continually increase my area of advertising?  Any sound advice would be greatly appreciated!  And just to put it out there, I have invested in handbooks on how to sell better on Etsy, how to market myself better on social media, and everything else along those lines.  I honestly think that maybe it's best that I take a step away from all of these sources and just ask YOU!  What do you think will bring you back more and more, AND attract new customers? I think I'm just plain -->

(I thought this picture was hilarious!  It's always the little things that bring a smile to my face).

Ok, so lets move on to some interesting stuff now :-)  In the midst of the whirlwind that me and my family have been operating in these past few weeks, I have been able to come up with some pretty cool ideas that I am thinking of introducing into the store within coming weeks.  I attended my cousin's wedding back home in New Jersey this past weekend, and there were so many different things that inspired new projects.  I can't let the cat out of the bag here, but I will tell you that it will catch your eye!  Maybe this is what will take Passionate Knitting over the edge?? hmmmm .... If not, guess what? I'll try try again :-)

Aside from that, I'm still busy knitting and crocheting as usual.  I am still finding that despite how bad my day is or how long and tiring it's dragging on, I still want to sit down and at least have some alone time with my yarn. :-)  And the best part of it all is that my son is now accepting the fact that Mommy needs 'Mommy Time'.  He even so much as brings me my yarn and says 'Here Mommy, here's your ball'.  Doesn't that just make you smile? Ugh, I can't get enough of that kid!!

So, really I just wanted to catch everyone up and let you know that I didn't just fall off the face of the Earth.  I'm still out here somewhere knitting and crocheting my heart out! And remember that I always welcome new ideas and inspirations from you ... I love to customize and make something that is truly unique to you and only you.

Until next time ....

Lets make this better than the last!

Good morning everyone!

So, it's been an extremely long week where I've been working so very hard on an order for a bride and her bridal party.  This order consisted of crocheted mary jane ballet slippers, that were customized with lilac (the wedding color) as well as crystals and pearls, check them out here:  https://www.etsy.com/listing/123524205/crocheted-elegant-flower-adorned-mary?ref=shop_home_active .  So far, I have completed all ten of the slippers, and need to finish the last minute touches of attaching the flowers.  Although this project was not challenging technique-wise, I felt that it was especially important, because the bride chose my slippers out of all of the other ones that are being offered on Etsy!  This says so much ... Therefore, I need to live up to this bride's standards and provide the perfect slippers for her and her party! :-)

On another note, I am now faced with preparing the shop for Mother's Day, which is coming up sooner than we think on May 12th!  There are so many ideas that are running through my mind of what to offer that is geared towards mothers and their special day.  What do you think would make the perfect gift?

I'm also thinking of possibly hosting a "Giveaway a Day" feature on all of my social networks, which will allow for my followers/fans/customers to reply to any social media platform for a chance to win either: FREE SHIPPING, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% or even 25% off each day.  There will only be one winner a day, who will be selected at random after meeting that day's giveaway requirements.  It's going to be a lot of hard work, but guess what?  Anything for my customers! Please keep an eye out on Twitter (@passionatenyki), Facebook (www.facebook.com/passionateknitting), here on Blogspot, and Google+ (+Nykisha), for details and dates ;-)

Good luck everyone, this is going to be a lot of fun!

Until next time ...

Spring 2013!!

Hi everyone and Happy Monday :-)

I've been MIA this weekend here on blogger, but ... I've finally finished my Spring 2013 collection which is now debuting in my Esty shop.  My inspiration was to keep in step with the current trends of cowls, scarves and cluches, but use bright and vibrant colors that only mean spring is here!

Take a look and find something that peaks your interest! www.etsy.com/shop/PassionateKnitting?section_id=13361229 :-)

I hope you enjoy what I've worked so hard on....

Weekly Giveaway!

Here we are at the beginning of another week, which means another giveaway!  This week's giveaway is a 50% off discount off of ANY order at Passionate Knitting.  And the great thing about this, is that there is no expiration date for this discount!

However, I can't just give this away that easy! lol In order to be entered into this week's drawing, all that you need to do is the following three things:

(1) Subscribe to Passionate Knitting's blog through email (there is a box to the right where you can enter your email address);
(2) Like Passionate Knitting's page on facebook; AND,
(3) Follow and favorite Passionate Knitting on Etsy.

Is that it? That's it! But there is one caveat to make this interesting :-)  This week's giveaway will only take place if there are more than 20 people that participate.  So once you complete items 1-3 above, comment below stating you've done it.  As soon as we have 20 or more participants, we can go ahead with the drawing at the end of the week!

So check back here often, and if we aren't up to 20 by 30 Mar, start spreading the word.  I'll come in every day and let everyone know where we're at.  Finally, on 31 March the winner will be chosen anonymously and will be notified on the same day.

I would love to continually increase my customer base, and one of the ways in which to do that is through social media.  And I can only cater to those who can view my page and follow me, so lets have fun with this one!

Good luck everyone :-)

Such a Productive Weekend!

Happy Monday everyone :-)

So to follow up with what's been going on this weekend, I got a lot accomplished despite the fact that I was busy all day Saturday for a family function. I'm finally starting to get the hang of prioritizing orders and getting them out, even before their ship date!  Every day seems to be getting that much easier, and I feel like Passionate Knitting and everything about it, is falling right into place.

For everyone who is interested, this weekend I worked on pink bunny slippers and some more Easter eggs. I finally was able to take the time out and chronicle the steps that I took to create my slippers, so that you can see first hand, what goes into making my products! So here goes lol

The first step was to create the sole of the slippers and attach my tags. As you can see I doubled up on the sole to make sure that they were nice and comfy! The pink one is 100% cotton just so that the kids' feet can breathe :-)

Then I attached both the inner cotton sole and the bottom ...

So really that was the hardest part, believe it or not!  The upper body, as well as attaching the pom pom tail and ears was a piece of cake.  Here is the finished product from a few angles ...

I can honestly say, that these slippers were probably the easiest accessory that I've made to date.  They are so quick to make and are absolutely adorable.  If you're interested in these slippers, they are still available at Passionate Knitting, where our Easter sale is still going on until this Sunday, March 31st.  If you aren't aware, just use coupon code EASTER during checkout.

Now my Easter eggs are still in the works, but I fully intend upon sharing with you all once I get some complete!

On another note, if you have any suggestions on what you would like me to write or what you would like to see, please don't hesitate to comment, I love hearing from my readers! :-)

The Weekend is Here!

Hi everyone, and Happy Thursday!

To catch everyone up, this entire week I've spent working on branding my items that I sell, and feel that I have truly found my niche market.  I had to ask myself, "How can I be different from the other knitters and crocheters that are all doing their best to sell their handcrafted items?"  "How can I reach a market that isn't being touched right now?", and "What market isn't really being reached by us handcrafters?"  After working through the night for the past few days, it dawned on me that creating items that can be considered family heirlooms, something that can be passed down generation to generation, is something that I wanted to delve into.

And it worked!  I am getting so much more traffic to my store and am always receiving new ideas and suggestions on what the customers would like to see offered by me.  From wedding blankets/afghans that can be personalized with the bride and groom's name (along with the date of the wedding), to a customized NFL NY Giants afghan, I feel like I have truly found my niche!  I am so happy!  So even though, the sales and customers may not be there (compared to some of the older and more well known Etsy stores), I finally feel like I have found my little corner of the knitting/crochet world that I fit into :-)

Ok .... so since tomorrow officially starts my weekend, I wanted to also share with all of you, what I plan on working on for the next few days.  I have a few orders in the works, to include the Giants blanket shown above, but am also working on another set of Easter eggs and these adorable bunny slippers!

Stay tuned throughout the weekend, as I'll be updating to show the various steps that I'll be going throught to get these projects finished.

Until then ...
Nykisha :-)

Etsy Blog Aggregator!

Hi everyone :-)

So today is a great day ... I have been placed on the Etsy Blog Aggregator, which is a site that compiles all of the 'IT' blogs posting about Etsy and handcrafted items.  Such an ingenious idea!  Marketing, networking and doing my research is really helping Passionate Knitting hit it's niche market and get my produuct out there.  I'm so excited, as I'm one step closer to being a successful business owner and gaining more clients and sales!

Here's more info on the Etsy Blog Aggregator:
"Etsy Blogs Unite: The Best Blogs Talking about Etsy and Handcraft"
 http://etsyblogs.fanchimp.com/

If you scroll down to the bottom, you'll see a drop down menu of all of the authors that are being featured on this aggregator.  Look around and show your appreciation to not just me, but to all of the talented creators out there!

Phew!

Could anyone have told me that promoting your own business is such hard work? ;-)

From getting my  business cards delivered, to establishing my brand, I've now focused on reaching out to my social media sites these past few days.  And, I can honestly say that I'm mentally exhausted after all of this!!! But guess what?  It's all worth it in the end, and I know that I will be successful.

But I need to ask each of you: what do you think is the most visited or seen social media site out there today?  Is it still facebook?  Twitter?  Google+?  Any input would be appreciated, as I'm still 'learning' how to actually advertise (and not socialize) on social media!

Thanks!!

Happy Monday!

Good morning everyone ;-) Happy Monday !

So today begins another work week, and as many of you know, that's always a hard thing to face especially since the weekend always seems to fly by so fast (I know mine did)!  But I can honestly say that even though my weekend flew by, it was definitely well spent at home crocheting.

You're probably wondering, "Did I just read that right?  Did she say crocheting?  I thought she was a knitter!?", but yes, you read right.  I was actually crocheting this weekend!  Crocheting for me has been something that I was taught at a very young age, by my grandmother, and stuck with me like riding a bike through the years.  I never really picked it up again, but instead took up knitting as something new to learn and experiment with.  However, I picked up my hooks this weekend, and I fell right back  into the swing of things.
The project that I have been working on, and completed was a set of 12 Easter eggs for my Etsy shop.  They came out absolutely adorable and were so easy to make!  From start to finish, I can say it took me a little over two days for everything ... They are worked in the round, and the oddments like ears, beaks, wings and pom pom tail are all sewed on with a yarn needle.  So simple!  :-)

They're bigger than they look, and actually came out to be about 4 in tall (excluding the bunny ears)!  If you're interested in these, I offer them in my shop in sets of three, where you can customize which three you receive with your order (stripes, bunny, chick or any combination of three).  Check it out at: www.etsy.com/shop/passionateknitting!

Also, because the Easter season is upon us, I am offering 25% off all orders in my store starting today March 18th through March 31st.  Use coupon code EASTER during checkout, and always remember that not only are new items added daily, each of the items are 100% customizable!  You can't beat that!

Take care, and happy knitting/crocheting!

Weekly Giveaway!

Good morning :-)

So another week is upon us, and what better way to start it, than to enter into a free giveaway?  For this week's giveaway, all you need to do to enter is respond to this post and explain why or how knitting/crochething has impacted your life.  I know not everyone knits or crochets, but it's really interesting to see how one has been touched by such a simplistic, yet long lasting hobby.  Do you have an afghan that was given to you by your grandmother?  Did you receive a baby blanket from a friend?  Be creative, and share your stories ... this is ultimately what will link us all in some way shape or form.  We can really realize that knitting and crocheting is not just a stereotypical hobby that you would expect "older" (for lack of a better word) members of our community to do.  Times have changed, and everyone (and I really do mean everyone) from all walks of life, have indulged in this timeless hobby.

Names for this particular drawing can be provided between March 12th 2013 and March 16th, and the drawing will be held on March 17th!

This week's item that will be given away is a set of cute Mickey and Minnie mouse can cozies!! For details on this cozy, please visit my shop, Passionate Knitting on Etsy: www.etsy.com/shop/PassionateKnitting.

Once the drawing has been completed on March 17th, I will then contact the winner on personalization options and shipping instructions.

Good luck!

One Day at a Time ...

Hi everyone!

I woke up this morning with the deep down feeling that I needed to reach more people, and have an impact on people's lives in some way shape or form.  Fiscal issues with the government and just an overall sense of how to make it ONE DAY AT A TIME, is greatly impacting the general sense of a person's well being.  What truly makes a person happy, when there is so much anger and confusion in the world?

Ultimately this question is what encouraged me to start a blog... What is it in my life that makes me happy and keeps me going one day at a time?  What is it that I can share with others that will allow them to escape the daily pressures and stresses, and be happy for at least a little while?   I guess the answer to this would be my passion for knitting.  Knitting has truly allowed me to let my mind wander and create unique pieces that I can be proud of.  And to top it all off, knitting doesn't have to be an expensive hobby at all!!

So with that being said, welcome to my blog on "Passionate Knitting"!  Here is a place of comfort, where you can read conversations on knitting and how it impacts my daily life, as well as chat and mingle with others that share the same interests.  Feel free to comment on all of my posts, and let me know how my blog is doing or just to suggest any topic that you would like me to cover!

Also, please feel free to browse me Etsy shop: www.etsy.com/shop/PassionateKnitting, where you'll find items that I have created for your pleasure!

Happy Knitting!
